Most models look promising for Boundary Bay Friday. Expect balmy 10°C or warmer.

I'll be out by UBC. Can't make it to 3rd but I can make it to Iona. I realize its offshore but how steady is the wind there on a SE?

I've never been to Iona on a SE. I've have kited at Jericho when it was SE at 3rd ave, which came into Jericho as NE. it was side on shore just west of the sailing club, that could be worth checking out if your at UBC.

Iona on se. Please know that Iona se side is very close to runway, when I windsurf there I make sure to leave room so that security guys don't bother me. Kitesurfing may make them nervous, all the see is the kite on the flight path and you'll be in the news.

With the tide that high trying to self launch on a SE at Iona would be impossible. Even with a launcher you'll have to swim out while the launcher holds your kite on the beach.

The biggest problem with Iona on a SE for me is the smell. All that stink from the sewage tailing ponds blows right up to you.

I would also opt for a 15 knot NE at Jericho over that. I've kited Jericho on NE and it's fun because you can show off right near the beach because you don't get the crappy wind shadow on a NE.

If you were really crazy and desperate and had launching assistant you could walk out to the end of the Iona outfall and launch there. There is a bit of grass to rig on and enough room but it's a long 4 km walk. Also if you break down out there you'd need a rescue boat. With Iona beach the wind is actually side shore for 5 km before becoming offshore so if you have to rescue in a SE at Iona beach it should be fine.

I can't ditch work tomorrow so enjoy them for me.

I don't think anyone would consider kiting on the South side of the outflow jetty, way too close to the flight path there. I assumed he meant kiting Iona beach but good point to bring up, we don't want to get banned at Iona.

Thanks for all the advice. Yeah I mean the north side of the long point. Where you would kite on a NW. I will check out Jericho first. If it's not working maybe I'll head to Iona.
