Insane Double Bluff AM, West Beach late afternoon potential here in the models for Tuesday. The projected late afternoon gradient of +5.3mb from UIL-BLI works out to roughly 45-50 knot sustained winds at West Beach

Worth watching for sure.............

Tuesday will be another stellar day for Useless Bay and Locust in the am to early afternoon hours and potentially West Beach for a late afternoon insanity session.

The deep low is set to turn inland and cross over southern Vancouver Island as it fills on Tuesday morning. The local meteorologists refer to this as a SE Sucker...........no jokes Alton :D It's a classic setup for a SE/S high wind event.

After the low exits the region to the east we can expect a wind shift to westerly through Juan de Fuca. The gradient will be extremely strong with winds likely topping 50mph at West Beach. The timing on this switch is expected for late afternoon and daylight may be an issue.

Fortunately, Locust and Useless Bay will have very strong southerly winds from dawn until early afternoon. I would expect S 30-40 mph to be common at both locations. If you get out at Locust first thing Tuesday keep an eye on West Beach. If it switches with daylight remaining you don't want to miss it!

Cheers,

Chris

Locust will have S-SSW winds 35-45+ tomorrow. Whidbey will have the same in the am to early afternoon. When the wind clocks west early afternoon JWSP will be unsailable. The track of the low is a once in 5 year setup for JWSP. Expect West Beach road to be closed, 15'+ waves and damage to the beach front homes. Not fun.....stay local. There's 60 knot gusts forecast for West Beach in the afternoon

that's what I am fearing.Locally, the afternoon will be very windy , 35 knots NW (like the 2006 storm that ripped trees out of Stanley Park). Hope it's manageable.

Hi GB,

I hope the track of this one is a little further south. The big westerly, 120 Km/hr winds, should be confined to the Strait of Juan de Fuca tomorrow night. It will get windy out of the W-NW locally but I don't think it'll have the same strength.

The centre of the low tracked inland through Abbotsford / Hope the year Stanley Park lost all those beautiful old growth cedars. This low is set to track inland between Mount Vernon and Bellingham.

Hope it's enough of a difference! I can't believe the wind the gang has been getting. 8/9 days of 20+ mph.........crazy!! Things are set to take a turn to the boring side this Friday. Arctic outflow, cold, stable high pressure over the entire region..............yawn

West Beach is the place to be tomorrow for the largest side-on wavesailing conditions you'll likely see this side of the Coast. The low is now forecast to move inland a few hours earlier bringing strong westerlies to West Beach by 9am. They have also backed the 65 knot gusts down to a more manageable 40-50. This place will be like the best WRB day on steroids tomorrow. Tides are great all day too for West Beach. It'll take a big commitment for waves to leave the good local wind conditions and drive past Locust to West Beach.

Holy Grail anyone? :D
