NOAA, NWS and EC are all pointing towards a strong frontal system coming through this Friday / Saturday. I'll start to look seriously at the models 96 hours out. If you need another wind fix I'd look at shuffling the schedule now to open both days :D

This Friday still looking promising with a slight bump up in predicted wind strengths and the inclusion of more favourable language in the forecast discussions.

Another bump up in the models for Friday :D Predicting SE 20-30 with gusts to 40 at Locust and Whidbey this Friday with SE 15-25 gusting 30 locally. We'll see what happens now 4 days out.

With a forecast like that, it should be better than both from my understanding. Though I've never sailed at Locust or (the sacred) Whidbey.

On a SE my impressions are:

AFB Comox (sand beach and clean waves) > CB > Locust > Ebby Landing

This based on:
  • A sample size of over 34 sessions (and even more trips as Whidbey didn't have wind on a few).
  • Personal preference for reliable small gear wind and waves (both jumping quality and frontside riding options over onshore conditions).
15 - Locust
11 - CB
7+ - Whidbey Island
1 - Air Force Beach, Comox

I would be interested in sailing Double Bluff/Useless Bay, but would be hard pressed to head to Whidbey Island again for a SE. West at West Beach is challenging/fun and that spot is worth the trip. IMHO

Agreed on the SE for Whidbey Dave. Useless is great for an overnight trip but pretty far for a day only trip. Windy at Whidbey on a SE usually means Locust is going to crank too. Ebey can have big smooth swell or 5 foot death chop depending on the tides and direction. Again, Locust would win out from everything you've said about it. Comox looks pretty good for Friday :D

Cheers,

Chris

Comox, Columbia, Whidbey & Locust all slightly upgraded. Looks like it'll be late locally and perhaps not in daylight hours. The best bet would be to head north or south to get the wind first. 3rd will stay easterly for quite a while before switching with the direction of this low and front.

On a different note, West Beach on Whidbey might get a blast of gale force westerlies Saturday morning as the front moves inland and high pressure builds in. Worth watching AG if you've never been :D
