The treatment facility at Iona outflows 4 KM out in the Straight deep under water.
The seepage that grosses up the back of the bay is from the duck pond, not the waste water tailing ponds.
The GVRD does testing at Iona all summer just as it does all the other beaches in the region and Iona has consistently good E.coli counts. They only test in the summer though and looking at the data it appears Iona quality goes down quite a bit once the fall rains start up and flow from that duck pond increases. Any value below 200 is considered safe for swimming though.
