Hoping for some after work ferry terminal action, high tide, could be nice if it blows. Forecasts don't all agree. It's been over a week since I have been out :o

Alton wrote:Dave - how does the current strength at Garry Point compare to Squamish when the sandbars show?

Stronger, especially toward the end on the low tide. Exactly how much is hard to estimate given how different the water conditions are. But when you are out near that red can you were getting pulled down the river pretty fast (like Rufus with all the gates wind open on the dam). Squamish feels like walking speed to me, but this felt faster than speed walking at times. It's doable, but you need to pay attention. Any time spent in the water results in a BIG distance travelled upwind (out to sea) very quickly.

Gulf Rd was better than expected for the first hour but then the wind got light. At one point I thought I was going to be swimming in again, but still my best session out there yet. Had a few scares though, one, I went way out into the straight and the wind just shut of for a few minutes and then I almost ran straight into a sea lion. I didn't see it unit it was right in front of me. It was looking straight at me and dove just in time. I saw it's tail disappear under the nose of my board. :o
The waves were really nice and with the wind having a little more west in it you were able to get some nice rides in. I'm really looking forward to hitting that place on a 4.2 day.

I was thinking about Gulf Rd yesterday but as I had to be in Richmond for 9am, I wanted to sail close by as the tunnel can be ridiculous. I remember the wind shutting down there an hour or 2 before it shut down at Sandbanks so we'll have to keep that in mind for those partial days of NW wind. I would love to do a downwinder from Garry Point to Tsawwassen at some point but that would need a full day of wind, a few people, and some extra gear in case of breakdown, etc. Looking at google maps, it looks fairly shallow within 500 metres of shore so the risk factor would be manageable but you would have to work your way up wind at Garry Point to clear the river barriers but that shouldn't be too hard with the river current.

Waiting at Acadia. Sandbar just recently exposed. Only W 10 but occasional gust to 15. Can see wind out in the Strait. Hope it fills in this afternoon.

OSR - Clay measured 20 knots on his wind meter. I'll be pumping up 10m on the Acadia sandbar soon :D :D :D
